We have been to Knockman Wood many times, its one of my favourite places, but have no walked to Garlies Castle before so we thought we would give it a try on this lovely sunny day!
Knockman Wood with its newly laid paths….
…looking quite Autumnal
Common Puffball
False Chanterelle
Yellow Stagshorn
Looking up towards Knockman
Plenty of hawthorn berries for the birds
The bracken is starting to turn
Berries and blue sky!
7 Spot Ladybird
Dor Beetle
Old Oak
Crab Apples
A very tatty Peacock butterfly
There is a nice easy to walk grassy path
Pete goes to the top of the hill to get a view
The Galloway Hills
Acorns
Hoverfly sunbathing Sericomyia silentis
It looks like a good year for hawthorn berries
We saw lots of Common Lizards soaking up the rays
Leafhopper Cicadella viridis
Broom moth Caterpillar
The bracken is a bit greener here
I have never seen so many Nettletap moths!
Garlies Castle
Well overgrown…
…with ash trees growing out of the stonework

Ruby Tiger Caterpillar
The nice new paths make it easier walking when its been wet, but they are a bit noisy for creeping up on wildlife!
