Well it started with this blizzard and then just got worse!
Friday 22nd March
Everything got blasted
We made sure the birds were fed
Everything started to look white
It got quite claustrophobic as all the windows were like this, we couldn’t see out
Most of these photos were taken from the doorways as the wind was too strong to go out and my camera soon got blasted!
At this stage you can still see my greenhouse, this later became completely covered by a snowdrift
The boat and steps up onto the rock have now disappeared
This is the front garden during the blizzard
This little fella came looking for his monkey nuts, now buried in the snow
Our road, still just visible at this stage
Saturday 23rd March
Saturday morning and more snow overnight, we went out to see the damage, this is just outside our back door
The front garden
Our cars almost buried
Blasted shed
Time for a walk up the road to see what access is like
The fields don’t have much snow on them, it was all swept into drifts by the strong winds
The hedges look pretty
Rhododendrons hanging heavy with the snow
Drifts got deeper as we approached Blackpark
This is the road, we didn’t get further than this
Outside the entrance to Blackpark Farm
Tramping back through the snow
Our house from the top of the drift outside
Our road, this is our access to Stranraer, we won’t be going out today!
We cant get out this gate
Or this one! Believe it or not this is our front path to the pedestrian gate!
At least we can just about see through the windows now
Pete in the front garden
This is the side of the house, surrounded by a huge drift
Our mini orchard, the trees almost covered and just the top of the willow den showing
Somewhere under there is our vegetable garden
Buried wheelbarrow
The back garden is under this somewhere
On top of the drift
Looking down on my greenhouse and sheds which are almost covered
We couldn’t get out of the back door and this is why, we had to get out the front and dig our way in the back!
Hungry birds
The cavalry have arrived!
Not looking very passable yet but getting there!
The birds sheltered wherever they could, this little bluetit found a gap between the snow and our front window, I think he wanted to come in!
Sunday 23rd March
Sunshine!
We made sure all our friends were fed!
Which car to dig out so Mike can get to work?
Not Mikes as can’t get out the main gate
Road now passable with care
The bottom gateway is the best so we will tackle this one, still a lot of snow to shift though!
The diggers left great boulders of snow outside the gate
Still pretty slippery
Pete trying to see our house over the drift
I think it will be a long time before we are back to normal!
The drifts are too deep for little legs!
Anyone for a picnic!
Under here somewhere is one of our wildlife ponds
and this is the other one, not much hope for the wildlife and newly laid frogspawn sadly
The car is now freed, just got to shift a load of snow in front of it
Monday 25th March
Breaking through the drift
Fields now green, but the drifts will remain for some time!
