Galloway Forest Park in the Snow–30th March 2013

Easter Saturday and after spending a week shifting snow, we decided it was time to chill out with a walk in the snow in the Galloway Forest Park!

We stopped in the Grey Mares Tail carprk to take some photos

We were going to walk from here, but the footpaths we attempted were all closed due to felling

A week after the blizzards–30th March 2013

After a week the snow has melted slowly, but there is still plenty left!

1

Just outside our back door there is still a huge snowdrift

2

We have managed to clear the drive now

3

Believe it or not my patio and planters are under this pile of snow

4

The drift looking back towards the house

5

Tons of snow!

6

We can now just about access the greenhouse which was completely covered by the drift

7

Still not easy getting to the garage or sheds

8

This drift has grown a dragons head!

9

The road is now clear, although a little narrow with not many passing places

10

The piles of snow boulders the diggers cleared from the road

11

Yesterday we managed to access the main gate, we had spent 2 days digging about half way across when a man in a digger asked if we would like some help. A few scoops and it was gone. We felt a little defeated, but nonetheless very grateful for his help!

15

This is the snow we had to clear from the drive and main entrance

16

Still can’t access the pedestrian gate

17

Our front path

18

The orchard and willow hide, we havn’t accessed this area yet

19

My herbaceous borders are beneath this lot

20

Several feet of snow still here

21

You can just see the tops of our fruit trees

22

23

24

Pete stood about 5 foot above the vegetable garden, we won’t be planting yet!

25

We can now see the little bridge and the heather is out!

26

Our wildlife pond area.
There are 2 ponds under this, not sure if any of the wildlife will have survived

27

Across the field

28A sign of hope!
