We parked by the campsite by the loch in Castle Douglas
We have stopped here a few times before but never visited the hide or attempted the circular walk
You soon leave the people behind and it doesnt feel like you are on the outskirts of a town, albeit a small one.
Galls
Panoramas from the hide, click to view larger
Lots of ducks and swans seen from the hide
Zig-zag clover I think
Silver-ground carpet
Another gall?
Boardwalk, alive with the sound of Sedge Warblers
Caterpillar-Small Tortoiseshell?
Burn, lots of caddisfly larva seen in the water
Bridge
Ragged Robin
Yellow Iris
Sheep
Wilow
Well kept footpath
Brown Hare
At the end of the path you turn right along the quiet lane.
Douglas Mausoleum at the back of Threave Estate
After passing the mausoleum the lane continues for a while before coming out on the main road into Castle Douglas
The views over the loch are good but this is the worst part of the walk as it is along the main road, however there is a pavement, so it is just the traffic noise you have to contend with.
Back in the park there are a lot of Black-headed Gull about
Mute Swan
Would recommend this circular walk on well kept paths
