A selection of the things seen in and around our garden during May.
Ground Beetle Carabus Granulatus
Alchemilla Mollis after the rain
Forget-me-nots
Goldfinch
Hoverfly Eristalis sp
Jay…
…after the squirrels monkey nuts!
Not seen so many lizards this year…
…this one was quite happy soaking up the warmth on Petes arm!
Marsh Marigolds
Mayfly
We saw this young, quite tiny rabbit for a few days
This was the Blackbirds nest, unfortunately not in a good place and was predated by crows, it did have another attempt but the same happened again sadly
I got quite close to a couple of Red Squirrels one morning..
…they were quite happily feeding…
…with me just a few feet away..
..I am sure they were aware..
…of me..
…but kept on feeding..
..until…
…along came a third…
…it appeared to scold them from the bench a bit further away and then they all ran off!
Robin fledgling in the shed.
Our Robin nested in our shed, it got in through the hole made for the extractor fan. We couldn’t find the nest at first, but then discovered it in a nest box that was in the shed for repair. It was a bluetit box but it was laid on its back with the top open, so the Robin must have thought it ideal. The funny thing is we have never got them to successfully nest in any of the boxes we have put out especially for them!
Siskin
Tatty Small Tortoiseshell
Sparrowhawk
Sunset
Our Swallows are back and nesting in the garage as usual!
Peacock butterfly with missing wing
Water hawthorn in the pond
The Bluebells were very late this year, being at their best right at the end of May
These were taken in the woods behind our cottage
After such a very hard winter here, it is lovely to see everything come alive again!
