At South Queensferry for our afternoon boat trip to Inchcolm Island. The boat leaves at 12.15pm from the jetty below the Forth Railway Bridge. Unfortunately the weather still a bit dull but so far not raining.
Forth road and rail bridges
Forth Rail Bridge
Forth Road Bridge in the distance
On the Maid of the Forth ready to go under the bridge
An amazing feat of engineering
The islands in the Forth were used during the war
Road bridge seen through rail bridge
Tankers at the terminal in the Forth
Lots of seals on the rocks
Another terminal
Our first glimpse of Incolm Island and the Abbey
Inchcolm Abbey
Inchcolm Visitor Centre
Into the small harbour
Steps from the boat
Path to the Abbey
We now have an hour and a half to explore the Island and Abbey
The abbey is stunning and much larger than expected, it is looked after by Historic Scotland and they do a very good job!
Old door
The Chapter House
Light through the window
The tower
Info board
View from the top of the tower
Roof of the Chapter House
Cloisters

Inside the Chapter House
Another boat seen from the top of the island
The entrance to the long dark tunnel
Quite scary inside
View from the top of the island towards the abbey
Old wartime buildings
Looking down on the abbey
We just about managed to see the whole of the island, the abbey and the visitor centre in our hour and a half but would have liked longer, would love to visit again one day on a nicer day with blue skies!
Back on the boat now and it leaves the other way going around the top of the island
Still misty and murky
The Baltic Trader speeding past us…
…looks far too big to go under the bridge!
..still looks to big
…No problem!
Now getting wetter as we get back to the bridge
…aspeed boat goes past…
…showing off!
South Queensferry from the boat
On land, looking back towards the Maid of the Forth.
Would thoroughly recommend this boat trip!
Colourful South Queensferry
The harbour
Now raining quite heavily and the top half of the bridge has dissapeared!
